Improving Scotland’s major trauma landscape through prevention, action and rehabilitation.

The STN is a bespoke, inclusive and equitable solution, which will involve the Scottish Ambulance Service and hospitals across Scotland – including four Major Trauma Centres (MTCs) – working collaboratively to deliver high quality, integrated, multi-specialty care to severely injured patients.

This approach will save more lives and improve patient outcomes throughout the trauma pathway – from prevention to rehabilitation – ‘Saving lives. Giving life back’.

This model of care is very much in line with the aims and ambitions of our National Clinical Strategy. It’s been designed to meet the needs of our population by delivering enhanced, coordinated care across traditional speciality and geographical boundaries.

Pre-Hospital

The Pre-Hospital, Transfer and Retrieval Group has been established to identify best practice, and produce national guidance and standards for professionals in pre-hospital care.

Major Incident Planning

The Major Incident with Mass Casualties Group has been established to develop a Major Incident Plan for Scotland. Regular updates are available following meetings.

Education & Learning

The Education and Workforce Group will consider what training is required for staff working across the patient pathway, and will consider how this could best be delivered for Scotland.

Data & Audit

The Scottish Trauma Audit Group (STAG) take the lead on data and audit for the STN, and sit on all of the working groups to provide some oversight.

Paediatrics

The Paediatric Group focuses trauma care for patients under 16, the group discusses best practice, education and guidelines.
