Successful Perioperative Careers Showcase Event in Scotland featuring staff from MTC Ninewells

A recent and successful event “Virtual Perioperative Careers Showcase” held on the 3rd of June, attracted over 60 attendees eager to learn about career opportunities in the perioperative space across Scotland. The day began with an inspiring welcome from Anne Armstrong, Interim Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland, setting the stage for a dynamic and informative event.

Participants then joined various breakout rooms, where they had the chance to interact with professionals already working in the field, alongside representatives from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES). These sessions provided valuable insights into the diverse career paths available in the perioperative sector in the following careers: Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Trauma Coordinator, Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP), Anaesthetic Practitioner, Recovery Nurse, Scrub Nurse and Operating Department Practitioner (ODP).

Denise Kelly and Sarah Cant from East of Scotland Trauma Network played a big part in the event. Denise was featured in a video speaking about her career pathway into major trauma and Sarah was there on the day to also speak about her career pathway and the role the field of periop care plays in major trauma.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success. The feedback we’ve received from both attendees and facilitators has been overwhelmingly positive.
